the sound is gone

affects somber

gloom hangs heavy

depression would be positive

if only all would remember

when jobs were as a bevy

no man to be sure

really wishes to be here

once proud and employed

all the jobs have been deployed

the only ones to laugh now

the ones working to find others employ

you wonder if around the world

those getting pennies

or nickels or dimes

for work once done with pride

contemplate the left behind

now standing in these lines

in China and elsewhere

people killing themselves

working so many hours

so many days

jumping out windows

living life in a haze

back to these lines

shoulders are slumped

no smiles or sound
