"The Seventh Dollar"
Gaylord, MI 10/2/09
The news squawks;
A radio and TV all the same.
Economy is up;
All is well.
I'm not so sure the Common Man agrees.
People with money make money;
They make the news.
Dollar upon dollar,
They care not from where it comes.
From Prada to Gucci down to Coach,
Ashamed one with money would have to stoop.
A dad, a mom, a student just try to find work.
The first dollar has to be made somewhere.
Do bankers or Wall Street make widgets?
They just sell wishes to make widgets.
Control the economy for their profit.
Our dollars now reside everywhere but America.
That first dollar is now made in far off places.
It's the second, third, and fourth dollars that line the Street.
Maybe by the fifth dollar
Will dad, mom, or student find that job.
But that's only if someone decides
They don't need the third house or fifth car,
Or maybe the yacht.
One for all and all for one
Exists in a shallow hall where Congress meets.
Lobbyists, corporate, association, and union executives
Take the fifth dollar and decide they want more.
Maybe by the sixth dollar that job will come.
No. Wait;
Too afraid to invest in the Common Man.
That dollar is held till it makes more money.
Maybe by the seventh dollar.......
